Pediatric Neurology provides inpatient consultative services at both the Children's Hospital of Alabama and UAB Hospital. In addition, the service administers and directs a four bed inpatient Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, with plans for expansion in the future . Patient diagnoses covers a range of problems including seizure disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, primary muscle diseases, developmental problems and acute encephalopathies. The division provides ambulatory services through general pediatric neurology clinics at Children's Hospital and sleep clinics. An expanding research program is investigating basic and clinical problems related to epilepsy, child development, genetics and biochemical diseases. The Psychomotor Disorders Clinic addresses problems relating to abnormal movements, and includes such conditions as Tourette Syndrome, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Huntington's Disease, Dystonia, Tremor, and Chorea. The Clinic currently follows over 700 patients with Tourette Syndrome, making it one of the largest in the country. Dr. Dure also serves on the national Medical Advisory Board for the Tourette Syndrome Association. Clinical research is ongoing, with clinical trials being carried out involving Tourette syndrome and Huntington's Disease.
